Laurel Bay Press

Terms of Service

Effective July 5, 2026 · Version 2026-07-05

1. The service

Laurel is an author’s studio operated by Laurel Bay Press, a Charles & Roe Inc. company (Toronto, Canada). It helps you write, edit, design, format, and launch books, with AI assistance throughout. These terms are a plain-language agreement between you and us; by creating an account you accept them.

2. Your account

You need a real, permanent email address to sign up; disposable inboxes are refused. Free accounts are a 14-day trial with fair-use limits on AI requests (currently 20 per hour and 100 per day). After the trial your books remain readable and exportable under your plan’s rules, and AI features require a subscription or a one-time book purchase. You are responsible for keeping your password safe.

3. Your content is yours

You own your manuscripts, covers, metadata, and published books. Creating them in Laurel transfers nothing to us. You grant us only the narrow licence needed to operate the service: storing your work, processing it through the features you invoke, and displaying it back to you. That licence ends where the service ends.

4. AI assistance

AI features send the relevant text to our model providers to generate a response. Providers process it to serve your request and are not permitted to train on it. AI output can be wrong; you are the author and editor of record, and you are responsible for reviewing what you publish.

5. Model training is opt-in only

We never use your writing to train models unless you explicitly switch on the “Help train the author AI” setting in AI & Privacy. If you do, consented manuscript exports and AI writing sessions may be included in training data for Laurel’s future author model, recorded against the consent version in force. You can opt out at any time; collection stops immediately, and you may request deletion of previously collected training copies by contacting us.

6. Payments

Paid offerings are monthly subscriptions (Author, Studio), one-time book purchases (first book at the introductory price, regular price after), and cover-credit packs. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your card number. One-time book purchases grant lifetime access to that book’s studio, including unlimited AI writing on that book. Subscriptions renew until cancelled, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Where required, taxes are added at checkout.

7. Fair use

Do not use Laurel to violate law, infringe others’ rights, generate spam at scale, probe or overload the service, or resell access. We may suspend accounts that do, and will tell you why.

8. Leaving

You can export your work and delete your account at any time; deletion removes your content from the operating service and, on request, from any consented training copies. We may close the service or an account with reasonable notice, in which case you get a window to export everything.

9. The honest legal part

Laurel is provided as-is, without warranties of uninterrupted service or of any particular publishing outcome. To the maximum extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada.

10. Changes and contact

If these terms change materially we will tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect, and the version date above will move. Questions: support@laurelbaypress.com.
